Meet the Broughton Family
Yeabridge Farm has been part of the Broughton family for over a century, with the land and traditions now carried forward by Joe and Victoria. Today, the farm runs as a mixed enterprise of both livestock and arable farming, continuing a proud heritage of working the Somerset countryside.
The building that now houses the South Petherton Barn Store has its own story. Originally designed for potato storage, it served growers from across the South West for many years. Unfortunately, potato storage on this scale is no longer viable, and so an alternative use was sought. Given our excellent location—just half a mile from the A303—we recognised that the site would be ideal for a secure self storage facility. With easy access straight from the main road, customers can come and go without difficulty.
The conversion of the redundant potato shed into a modern Barn Store facility has been supported by a grant from DEFRA and the EU*, part of their ongoing commitment to rural sustainability and local employment. By adapting and repurposing the building, we’ve been able to preserve its agricultural legacy while giving it a new role that supports the community.
