Tips for Maximizing Space

Maximizing space in a storage unit involves strategic planning and organization. Here are ten tips to help you make the most of your storage space:

  1. Plan and Inventory:
    • Make a list of all items you plan to store. This helps you categorize and prioritize items, ensuring you pack systematically and don't waste space on non-essential items.
  2. Use Uniform Boxes:
    • Opt for uniform-sized boxes. This makes stacking easier and more stable, allowing you to utilize vertical space efficiently.
  3. Label Everything:
    • Clearly label all boxes on multiple sides. This saves time when searching for items and prevents unnecessary unpacking and repacking.
  4. Disassemble Furniture:
    • Take apart furniture pieces like beds, tables, and shelving units. Store the disassembled parts together and keep the hardware in labeled bags attached to the furniture.
  5. Utilize Vertical Space:
    • Stack heavier, sturdier items on the bottom and lighter, fragile items on top. Use shelving units if allowed, to maximize vertical storage.
  6. Vacuum-Seal Clothes and Linens:
    • Use vacuum-seal bags for clothes, bedding, and linens. This reduces their volume and keeps them protected from dust and moisture.
  7. Fill Gaps:
    • Utilize every inch of space inside furniture, appliances, and empty containers. Store smaller items inside drawers, wardrobes, and even large appliances.
  8. Create Aisles:
    • Leave a small aisle for access, especially if you’ll need to retrieve items regularly. It might seem like wasted space, but it can save you time and hassle in the long run.
  9. Prioritize Accessibility:
    • Store items you’ll need access to more frequently at the front of the unit. Seasonal items, documents, or frequently used tools should be easily accessible.
  10. Use Furniture Covers and Protectors:
    • Cover furniture and mattresses with plastic covers or moving blankets to protect them from dust and damage while utilizing space efficiently around them.

By implementing these tips, you can maximize the space in your storage unit, ensuring your belongings are stored safely and efficiently.

About Us

Brothers Michael and Roger Bazeley started their farming career at Southwick in 1952 with three in-calf heifers named Faith, Hope and Charity. Roger married a local lass, a neighbouring farmer’s daughter, so Jane and Martin have direct connections to four generations of Southwick Estate tenant farmers. Martin joined the farming business in 1982, by which time it had expanded to more acres and more dairy cows. Barn Store was established in a large former dairy building in 2003 and expanded rapidly to other buildings on the same site meaning we can offer storage in Fareham for household items, business use.

We used the Barn Store in Fareham to store furniture whilst we having some work done on our property.

The service was fantastic and the unit was secure and easy to use. We were also able to use the company's van as part of our agreement, which was extremely useful.

Jane in particular was very helpful, replying to our queries quickly and making it super straightforward to get set up.

We'd definitely use the Barn Store again, and I'd recommend them to anyone in the area.

Wish I could give more than 5 stars. Genuinely superb service from this storage company. My wife and I moved house from a lovely two bed house to a run down 3 bed project in August 24 and needed to find somewhere relatively local and competitively priced to store most of our things very quickly. We couldn't have picked a better place. The service was world class from the get go. The storage facility was excellently maintained, very, very secure, easy to find, easy to access and the communication from the management was fantastic. Any issues or questions we had were answered sufficiently and swiftly every single time. Jane and her team are brilliant and I will not hesitate to use Barn store Fareham again in the future. Thank you.
