About us...
Barn-Store is an established farm diversification enterprise.
The
farm at Southwick was started in 1952 by brothers Michael and Roger Bazeley
who set up the business with three in-calf heifers named Faith, Hope and
Charity.
As tenant farmers on the Southwick Estate we now farm
940 acres with a 210 dairy herd and grow barley, wheat, and oilseed rape.
Michael retired from the business in 2000 and Roger's son Martin, now
runs the farm but with huge support from his father. A full time cowman,
Colin, is employed to milk the cows and Andy keeps the tractors and machinery
going. Andy is also a qualified fork lift driver and can be available
at a small charge to help load or unload goods into the barn. The office
is manned by Martin's sister Jane who looks after the day to day office
administration and reception.
Martin and his wife Audrey and their three children, Emma, Naomi and
Oliver live in the farmhouse at Offwell Farm and are therefore on hand
to oversee the Barn-Store site. Martin also runs his
own Suthwyk Ales business - with barley grown on the
farm a beer is contract brewed by a local brewery and supplied to pubs,
restaurants, off-licences and at farmers’ markets, as well as the
newly opened Real Ale Bottle Shop and Steam Brewery Museum namely the Southwick Brewhouse in the village of Southwick.

In January 2006 the first franchisee was appointed at Hartley
Park Farm, Selborne.
The
Butler family have been farming at Selborne for 76 years primarily farming
hops for brewing and potatoes. The farm is now run along simpler lines
growing wheat, oil seed rape, beans, millet and lavender and letting land
for vegetable growing - baby spinach and coriander.
Their first diversification in 1989 was to make use of surplus farm buildings,
having given up rearing cattle, renting out small workshop and office
space known as the Hartley Park Business Centre.
Tim together with his son Simon have converted a barn on the farm as
a secure storage facility using the Barn-Store identity.
Tim and his wife Anne live on site, as does Simon. Anne runs the very
successful English Hampshire Lavender Company distilling
the oil from the lavender crop harvested in July and August and converted
into their delightful fragrant soaps, oils and sprays which are sold through
their shop on the farm as well as at local farmers’ markets. Drivers
using the B3006 Liss to Alton road will be familiar with the wonderful
sight of the lavender in bloom during June. See www.english-hampshire-lavender.co.uk
Hops are still grown on the farm although no longer for the brewing industry
but can be purchased from the farm or farmers’ markets during August
and September to decorate the farmhouse kitchen and can be found adorning
pub beams throughout the area.
